Topic: “PPT on harvesting electricity from Plants”  

DATE: 1st February, 2016  

The Association Committee “Electrazz” has decided to conduct PPTs on 1st February, 2016 for all the students.  So, we invited all the students for presentations on 28th January, 2016.  The student of final year Ms.Meghana Mourya has come forward with a paper which deals with the generation of electricity from plants. She has already this paper at GNIT for which she got a prize. So Association Committee selected her paper for presentation on 1st Feb.

All the students have gathered in seminar hall at 10.45 AM.  The session was started with HOD’s welcome address. The HOD addressed the students about the gathering and also given little explanation on how the generation of electricity is taking place in nowadays. He enlightens the students with his words.

At 11.00 AM Ms.Meghana has started her presentation on the topic “Harvesting Electricity from Plants”.  She has explained the concept of why we need electricity, in what way we can generate the electricity, importance of Renewable sources etc.  She has explained the concept very well and also students have shown very interest to listen and lastly at the end of the session students asked queries about the topic and get clarified.

Finally, with the end of the session, students gave their feedback on the activity.  They have said that the complete session was very informative and they wanted to have such sessions again.

Topic – Plant Based Energy Generation-Harvesting Electricity From Plants

Introduction:

Harvesting electricity directly from the best solar power plants in the world (photosynthetic plants)? Sound too good to be true? Well it may be a possible.

In the near future, thanks to new research from the University of Georgia.Researchers there have developed a way to “interrupt” photosynthesis and redirect the electrons before they are used to make sugars.

Photosynthetic plants function at nearly 100% quantum Efficiency.Because Almost Every Photon Of Sunlight That Is Captured By The Plant Is Converted By The Plant Is Converted Into An Electron.

“Clean energy is the need of the century,” .

This approach may one day transform our ability to generate cleaner power from sunlight using plant based systems.

Importance of PHOTOSYNTHESIS in the generation of energy:

During photosynthesis, the photons that are captured by the plant are used to split water molecules into the component parts of oxygen and hydrogen. By doing so, they produce electrons. The electrons are then utilized by the plant to create sugars that are then used by the plant (and the animals that eat it) for growth and reproduction.

Actual Logic:

The technology involves separating out structures in the plant cell called thylakoids, which are responsible for capturing and storing energy from sunlight. Researchers manipulate the proteins contained in the thylakoids, interrupting the pathway along which electrons flow.

The modified thylakoids are then immobilized on a specially designed backing of carbon nanotubes, cylindrical structures that are nearly 50,000 times finer than a human hair. The nanotubes act as an electrical conductor, capturing the electrons from the plant material and sending them along a wire.As a result of the first, small-scale experiments of this technology, electrical current levels that are two orders of magnitude larger than any previously reported in similar systems have already been produced.There is obviously a great deal that would still need to be done before such a technology could be commercialized, but it’s definitely an interesting on.

Conclusion:

In the near term, this technology might best be used for remote sensors or other portable electronic equipment that requires less power to run . If we are able to leverage technologies like genetic engineering to enhance stability of the plant photosynthetic machineries!Most powerful  alternative  is the only solution. “Renew  world, Renew  life!”

Conclusion:-

Conclusion for this presentation would be going for renewable resources of energy rather than non-renewable sources.’Go Green’ would be a basic moto for production and usage of the resources available.’ Most powerful  force alternative is the only solution’. Renew the world and  Renew  life.

Query session:

  • I was asked about the project being an electronic one,so the output would be low.To which my explanation would be, the research may work out in future and like it happened in the case of fuel cell. The evolution of fuel cell running small electronic devices to now usage of it for running a car and many other devices of higher parameter requirement of input.so even this project would therefore evolve and build up like an electrical project later.
  • The project was compared with solar and it was taken upon having this project advantageous than solar in terms of efficiency and cost of installation.

                                                                                                                                                      

Topic: “Bifurcation of AP & Telangana”  

DATE: 25th January, 2016  

The Association Committee “ELECTRAZZ” has conducted a debate on the topic “Bifurcation of AP & Telangana”.  The topic has started at 10.50 AM in the class room 61.  All the Students participated very actively and shown very enthusiasm in debating while the discussion was going on.  Before the discussion Students are divided into two groups who supported bifurcation and who are not.  Firstly they listed about the good things that happened to AP & Telangana after bifurcation and what problems took place to the states also discussed.

The group of students who supported bifurcation listed the positive points that power production has been increased, state machinery innovative methods like Poly house cultivation and crop colonies increases the agricultural productivity, water resources increased by the program Mission Kakatiya, employment increases by new telangana public commission, Haritha Haaram & Aasara like innovative programs started, Housing scheme, cultural rejuvenation and kalyana lakshmi schemes attracted the public & also improved the living level of telangana people.

Problems are also discussed and listed out in points that there is no capital, no infrastructure & no institutions, and also about the proposal four major universities, super specialty hospital cum teaching facility along the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences and also about the proposal of IIM and IIT points were discussed.

Finally they concluded that bifurcation of any state should be done in such a way that there shouldn’t be any problem for the students and job seekers mainly which effects their future. These points all are concluded in students view.

Topic: “QUIZ”  

DATE: 18th January, 2016  

The Association Committee “ELECTRAZZ” has conducted “quiz” which covers general aspects & also related to electrical subjects among all second, third & final year students.  The activity was started at 10.50 AM in C block Room No 61. All the students have participated very actively and they have shown very enthusiasm in asking the questions.  All the students divided into two groups A & B.

The questions asked by the students covered current affairs, sports, films and electrical subjects. Students were participated very actively and they stricken other group with very tough questions.  The whole session was very interesting and the students enjoyed very well and also they gathered information with this session.

In the last 10 minutes, Association In charge asked about the strengths & weakness of Stanley College to the students on which students have shown very interest to answer.  They said the strengths of the college are women’s college & located in heart of the city to trace out easily.  Faculty is very good & college has been showing very interest for the career improvement of students. Students also mentioned the drawbacks.  The Association committee has taken these aspects in a positive manner, decided to rectify the problems and wanted to satisfy the students need as soon as possible.

Finally the session was very interesting and very informative.  Students wanted to have such sessions in future for their improvement of knowledge in all areas.

Topic on “Career Planning”

DATE: 11th January, 2016  

In this semester, the association committee “ELECTRAZZ” has started its activity with student related concept “Career Planning” in which all IInd, IIIrd and IVth year students was participated very actively. The concept “Career Planning” covers all the general topics which are related to the student’s career, their higher education, their core and noncore fields etc. The students of second & third year raised many questions related to their present learning subjects, about their examinations, and also asked how to crack a job and how to score good percentile in their academic and non academic fields.

The final year students answered each and every question which was asked by the students of IInd & IIIrd at their level best. They guided the students in such a very good manner that how did they crack the job and how they scored the marks for their higher education. And also they discussed how importance the core subjects and how important the core knowledge in hiring the technical & non technical jobs. How a student will get MS or MBA, about the score, which university is preferable, about GRE, MAT, CAT, and GATE all these topics were discussed. And also discussed how the GATE score is important for government jobs. They guided and encouraged the students to develop their personality and communication skills also.

The topic held about 45 minutes and all the students took the suggestions given by their final year students in a very positive manner and finally they concluded that the whole session was very informative and impressive. The students gave a very good feedback about this activity and they said that they wanted to have such kind of sessions in future.
